SSO supports the need for treatment decisions to be made on a case-by-case basis. The surgeon’s knowledge and understanding of the biology of each cancer, alternative treatment options, and the institution’s policies at the time the patient will be scheduled for surgery all need to be taken into consideration. SSO 2020 Cancelled and Converted to Virtual Meeting Format In consideration of the many challenges presented by COVID-19 along with SSO’s objective of ensuring the health and safety of SSO 2020 attendees, the SSO Executive Council has made the difficult decision to forgo the live meeting planned for August and instead convert SSO 2020 to a virtual format. Please plan to join your colleagues for a live, virtual event the evenings of August 17 th and 18 th . The SSO 2020 Scientific Program Committee (SPC) is planning a virtual meeting with an abbreviated program schedule that will include general sessions, featured lecturers and various disease-site sessions. Select sessions will be recorded and available on demand. The SPC is hard at work reshaping the program and additional details along are forthcoming. Click here for additional information. Management of Hereditary Breast Cancer: ASCO, ASTRO and SSO Guideline SSO collaborated with the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society for Radiation Oncology to develop, Management of Hereditary Breast Cancer: ASCO, ASTRO and SSO Guideline . The multidisciplinary, expert panel addressed 10 clinical practice questions in the guideline. SSO Website Wins ASAE 2020 Gold Circle Award The American Society of Association Executives announced winners of The Gold Circle Awards, which recognizes excellence, innovation and achievement in association/nonprofit marketing, membership and communication programs. The 2020 competition received 189 submissions across 15 categories and was judged by professionals from a variety of associations, non-profits and for-profit organizations. To enter, SSO provided a comprehensive business case for redeveloping the website, including the linkage of the new website as a mechanism to promote and reinforce the Society’s new brand. Three website goals were presented along with supportive metrics. The website goals were to reinforce the value of membership and community, increase awareness of the SSO brand and the impact on the profession and increase click-thru rates while pioneering a simplified user experience. The site’s six-month dashboard metrics indicate significant increases in overall traffic, page views and engagement. The Society looks forward to implementing additional features and content resources to reinforce the mission of the Society and support the oncology community.
